CONCORD — The Mt. Diablo college board on Tuesday unanimously agreed to cut practically $4.9 million from particular education over three years and to lay off 200 teachers simply because of state spending budget reductions.
The board tabled far more than $3.5 million in cuts that would have lowered the hours of specific education assistants, right after assistant superintendent Mildred Browne stated she wants more time to evaluate the benefits of an internal audit. Trustees also tabled a proposal to reorganize the administration inside the district office, when Superintendent Steven Lawrence stated he desires to reevaluate the expenses.
However, the board agreed to appoint Julie Braun Martin for the position of assistant superintendent of personnel, replacing Gail Isserman who’s retiring. Trustees also agreed to move the present director of curriculum and instruction to the personnel director placement.
